Wallpaper - The ultimate interiors come back

Once seen as an interior design relic, wallpaper has slowly but surely become more popular these last few years. With so many fabric houses now offering a wide variety of wallpaper designs, we thought we’d share with you the Sophie Sews teams favourite wallpapers to get you inspired!

Head Designer: Sophie

My favourite wallpaper right now is Halfmoon Azurate/Coral by Harlequin. I was drawn to it because of how quirky and unique the design is, but also how it’s got this gorgeous metallic fleck to it. I absolutely love statement wallpaper and Harlequin are the best at creating these. In my downstairs WC I have very bold Emma Shipley wallpaper on one wall, and a deep lagoon green paint colour on the other which makes this space so much more interesting. I think in a downstairs WC you can be as bold as you like, so don’t be afraid of using wallpaper with crazy patterns and colours! My one top tip for wallpapering any room is to hire a professional decorator. We’ve seen so many wallpaper disasters that I can guarantee you this is the best advice you’ll read.

Personally I love wallpaper murals! To me they look like a piece of art without the hassle of finding the right frame. I’m still in love with the tropical trend of summer 2022 so any mural with pinks, greens and palm trees is a winner for me. Harlequin’s Floreana wallpaper mural is absolutely stunning; its jungle inspired design and colours, with the extra glamorous pop of gold and an overall subtle sheen to the paper ticks so many boxes for me. My top tips for wallpaper murals are to make sure you’re putting them on one wall only, this will help the design stand out and be a real wow factor in that room. You’ll also need to make sure that you’re choosing a wall with a good amount of height to get the full effect of your mural.

We’ve recently wallpapered a client's master bedroom in a beautiful mural by Little Greene called Bird and Bluebell. As soon as I saw the completed room I instantly fell in love with the wallpaper! It has this lovely whimsical, wonderland, feel to it which I think creates a calming interior which is ideal for a bedroom. The mural also has these lovely pops of bluebell purple which we predict is going to be a popular colour for interiors in 2024. My top tip for adding wallpaper to any room is to always buy more than you think you need!

Junior Designer: Ellie

I’ve chosen Colefax and Fowler’s Basket Sky wallpaper from their Naturals ll collection. What I love about this wallpaper is how it’s so paired back and neutral, whilst still being a stand out wallpaper! My top tip for textured wallpapers is to add them into neutral rooms to give that space an extra dimension. This will enable you to stick with your minimalist scheme without creating a boring or stark interior.
