Tremendous Trimmings
Borders, beads and tassels are the perfect way to add a beautiful finishing touch to any blind or curtain. Whether you’re looking to add a touch of texture, or a bold punch of colour, there are trimmings available for every style. At Sophie Sews we love exploring the variety of trimmings on offer and have used many different types in our designs. In this month's blog we explore how trimmings can be used and the advantages to them.
If you’re looking for a way to add a fun and playful touch to your interiors, why not try colourful pom poms! A string of pom poms will give a playful feel to any room making them perfect for a child's bedroom. Not only are pom poms inexpensive compared to traditional beaded trimmings, but they can be used on curtains, blinds, and even cushions, making them versatile as well as economical.
If a beaded trim isn’t your style, a subtle border detail may be the perfect trim for you. A plain fabric makes for the perfect border on any roman blind, it is subtle yet effective when used with a contrasting plain fabric, or even a bold pattern as seen here. These stunning roman blinds made with an Emma Shipley fabric, show just how well a plain border can add an interesting detail to a blind without having to splash out on an extravagant trim.
The beautiful thing about trimmings is that there is such a wide variety out there, you never have to opt for just one type. Pairing trimmings together works brilliantly if you are wanting to create an eye-catching detail on a curtain, blind, cushion, or even a covering. When pairing trimmings together, ensure there is a difference between them in colour, texture and size so that they do not merge into each other and lose their eye-catching allure. Pictured below is a stunning bedside table cover we created using a VV Rouleaux ribbon and a James Hare fringe. Together they create an elegant finish to this cover without looking over crowded or clashing.
