Trimmings are a fantastic way to add a unique and personalised touch to your soft furnishings. By adding some tassels, beading, or pom-poms, you can completely transform your curtain or blind to be a reflection of your specific interior style. So in this month’s blog, we’re exploring some of our favourite and most popular trimmings!
Pom-poms!
Pom-poms are perfect for adding a fun and playful feel to both children’s bedrooms and playrooms. If you’re wanting to create a room with a cute and playful interior style, go for smaller pom-poms with a mix of colours. Using these on soft furnishings such as roman blinds, cushions and bed throws will add a lovely whimsical feel! If you are however worried that in the future, your little one may no longer want a room seen as ‘cute’, pom-poms thankfully can be removed or replaced easily. If however, you’re wanting to use them in a more grownup space, try slightly larger, more defined pom-poms in one solid colour. We find this makes the pom-pom detail less cutesy and more elevated.

Braids
Adding a braid trimming to your soft furnishings will create the look of a sophisticated and traditional home interior. We think a braid detail looks fantastic on large curtains, especially if you’re worried that a big spanse of plain fabric could look too drab or boring. Braids however not only look beautiful on curtains and blinds, but also work really well when added to furniture. If you’ve chosen a plain fabric for your furniture, adding a braid around the edge of your dining chair for example, will add not only a subtle mix of complementary colours, but also a unique detail that we guarantee no one else will have!
Tassels or fringing
Tassels and fringing are perfect for adding both texture and personality to your soft furnishings. Fringing will help create a cosy and soft interior scheme, perfect for countryside cottages, or homes with lovely traditional features. Tassels on the other hand look extravagant and will add more of a ‘wow factor’ finish to your soft furnishings. Consider either fringing or tassels for the lead edge on your curtains, or as a detail along the bottom of a roman blind. As both these trimmings are usually rather thick and chunky, follow the timeless rule of ‘more is less’ to ensure your chosen trimming doesn’t become the focal point of the room.
