Creating a beautiful bedroom for your little one

Decorating your little one’s bedroom can be an exciting yet daunting task to complete, luckily for you we’ve got plenty of ideas to help you create the perfect space that will grow with your children throughout the years.

Colour!

Choosing the right colour scheme for your child’s bedroom is an important step in ensuring that the space can grow with them as they evolve and explore. We recommend picking soft colours and muted tones, such as neutrals or pastels, as these have been found to create a calming atmosphere for children, making a more peaceful environment for bedtime.

Soft blues, pastel pinks, or even powdery greens are colours that will create a fun and bright bedroom without being too overstimulating. At Sophie Sews, we have the entire Little Greene paint range to offer, with sample pots available at our shop allowing you to find the perfect shade for your project.

If your home decor is not particularly colour filled, then we’d suggest picking neutrals for your children’s bedroom. Warm beige’s and grey’s with pops of soft colours being added to the room in pillows, throws, and curtains. This way, your colour scheme can be switched out more easily should your little one grow out of their favourite colour.

Maximising their space

Utilising the space in an awkwardly shaped bedroom can be a challenge, but at Sophie Sews we can help you find the perfect solution for your home!

Box seat cushions are one example of utilising an awkward corner to create a cosy space in your child’s bedroom, such as a little reading nook. Box seat cushions are also a fantastic way to add in pattern and colour without having to commit to painting or wallpapering a whole wall!

Other easy ways to maximise an odd shaped room is through furniture.Think under bed storage, installing hooks on their walls, or using mirrors and lighting to create the illusion of a larger room. Adding unique and fun home accessories such as bedside table lamps and mirrors, can really help to create a cosy and inviting environment for your little one.

Linings and layering

Having window dressings that can block out as much light as possible, is super important to ensuring that your child gets a good night’s sleep. Like many curtain makers, we highly recommend having blackout lining in your curtains and roman blinds, especially in a south facing window, or a window with street lights directly outside.

The best way to ensure a dark room at night is to layer your window with combinations such as a roman blind and a curtain, or a curtain with a pelmet. These designs not only look beautiful, but are extremely practical in ensuring any light that may seep through is caught and not waking up your little one.
